Chatbot

A conversational AI program that simulates dialogue with users via text or speech.

Help me explain to...

K–5th
A chatbot is like a robot you can talk to on a screen. You type or speak, and it answers back—like a helpful friend who lives inside your tablet or computer.

6–8th
Chatbots are computer programs that talk with you. You might see one when you visit a website and it says, “How can I help?” It’s not a person, but it knows how to answer basic questions using AI.

9–12th
A chatbot is an AI-driven system designed to simulate human conversation, often through text. From customer service bots to tutoring tools, they use language models to generate relevant and coherent responses.

Expeditions

K–5th
Have students pair up and take turns playing “chatbot” and “user.” One asks a question, the other must give a helpful answer without going off topic. Switch roles and reflect on what was easy or hard.

6–8th
Ask students to visit a site that uses a chatbot (with guidance). Then discuss: Was the chatbot helpful? What could it not do well? As an option, explore a Vervotex-powered demo chatbot to see how it responds in a school setting.

9–12th
Challenge students to create a simple chatbot using free tools (like Scratch, Twine, or a basic chatbot builder). They should define a purpose (e.g., school help desk) and reflect on how modern platforms, such as those from Vervotex, are helping build more context-aware bots for education.
