Parameters

The internal settings of an AI model that determine how it functions—often billions in large models.

Help me explain to...

K–5th
Parameters are the little dials inside the computer’s brain that help it make decisions.

6–8th
Think of parameters as tiny rules inside the model that it learns during training. They help the AI know what to do.

9–12th
Parameters are numerical values adjusted during training that define the model’s behavior. LLMs may have billions of them.

Expeditions

K–5th
Use knobs or sliders to “tune” a robot (e.g., make it faster/slower). Discuss how computers adjust parameters too.

6–8th
Create a paper model where changing different settings leads to different outcomes. Relate this to how parameters work.

9–12th
Visualize a simple neural network with adjustable weights. Change parameters and see how predictions shift.
