Inference

The process by which an AI model uses its training to make predictions or generate content based on new data.

👩‍🏫 How to Explain by Age Group

  • Elementary (K–5)

    • Inference is when a computer guesses what comes next, like finishing your sentence!

  • Middle School (6–8)

    • AI uses what it’s learned to make new decisions. This step is called inference, and it’s like using clues to figure something out.

  • High School (9–12)

    • "Inference is the stage where a trained model applies its learned patterns to generate outputs or make predictions from new input data.

🚀 Classroom Expeditions

Mini-journeys into AI thinking.

  • Elementary (K–5)

    • Play a fill-in-the-blank game with common sentences. Then explain how AI “guesses” the next word using similar logic.

  • Middle School (6–8)

    • Show students an image partially covered and ask them to guess what it is. Compare this to how AI makes predictions based on limited input.

  • High School (9–12)

    • Use a simple ML demo to show how inference works. Let students input new data and see how the AI responds. Discuss speed, accuracy, and real-world examples.
